PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Jack Trengove is continuing to ride the energy and excitement Port’s young group is bringing to the SANFL Statewide Super League finals series.
The Magpies defeated Adelaide by 30 points in the qualifying final at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, and Trengove said his side’s connection is providing the club with some real belief.
“Playing finals is huge for this young group,” Trengove said in a post-match interview on Saturday night.
“They are still bringing that energy and excitement. As an older and a more senior player now, I just tell them that these opportunities don’t come around too often, so we’ve got to make the most of it.
“We’ve got a really tight group - the Maggies listed boys as well have bought in and they are really involved, and bringing that energy as well.”
Trengove - who has played 89 AFL games with Melbourne and Port Adelaide - said the club was really committed to bringing some more silverware to Alberton.
The 28-year-old said his side was well aware of the opportunity ahead of it, but knows it will take a lot of hard work.
“It’s an exciting time and we know we have that opportunity in front of us,” he said.
“It’s just about going out and really making the most of it. I’ll certainly be pushing the boys to make sure we do, because grand finals and finals series don’t come around too often.
“We have the list there to do it. We just need to keep persisting and keep working hard.”
The Magpies face Glenelg at Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon, with the winner progressing to this year’s grand final, while the loser will play the winner of Norwood and Adelaide in the preliminary final.
