AHEAD of the 2018 Port Adelaide Football Club Best and Fairest event on October 5, we thought we would profile some of the players who could be in contention to win the coveted John Cahill Medal.
Travis Boak remains one of the most reliable and consistent performers in the Power side.
The 30-year-old is renowned for his hard work, leadership and ability to lift the side in key moments.
The skipper showed his versatility in 2018, playing in various roles including in the midfield and up forward, where he hit the scoreboard at a rate of nearly a goal per game.
Key stats
Travis Boak played every game in 2018, one of just six Port Adelaide players to do so.
He averaged 21.8 disposals per game, made up of 10.8 kicks and 11.0, and he exceeded that average eleven times including having 27 or more disposals
His 3.9 marks per game beat his career average of 3.8, and his 0.9 goals per game was up on his career average of 0.7.
It was his equal second-best season for goals. Boak booted 20.13 in 2013 but had 19.13 in 2018, equalling the tally he returned last year and similar to his 19.6 in 2014.
Key games
Boak played a key role in his side’s opening round victory over Fremantle with 26 disposals, five marks, three tackles and a goal, while he booted two goals in a come-back win over Sydney a week later.
He was among the Power’s best in the Round 5 Anzac round loss to Geelong with 23 touches, four marks and an equal season-high eight tackles.
His goal, five marks, six tackles and 29 touches against the Gold Coast in Shanghai earned him the Shanghai Medal as best on ground.
He booted two goals against St Kilda in Round 16, and two in Round 20 against Adelaide in the heartbreaking Showdown loss.
One of his finer performances came again in a losing side while trying to lift his team against Collingwood in Round 22 when he finished with 27 disposals, five marks and four tackles as well as another two goals.
