PORT ADELAIDE has suffered a disappointing 74-point defeat at the hands of South Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers jumped out of the blocks early to boot the first three goals of the game, while keeping the Magpies scoreless in the opening term.
Skipper Steven Summerton racked up 11 disposals in the first quarter, and Jack Trengove was impressive with nine after being omitted from the Power side.
Lindsay Thomas tried to spark the home side with a nice one-on-one mark and goal in the goal-square but the visitors answered right back.
Goals to Simon Wong and Sam Davidson late in the first half brought the margin to 12 points at the main break.
Both sides traded goals in the opening few minutes of the third term but from there it was the Panthers who kicked the next five to blow the game away.
Peter Ladhams kicked a goal just before the three-quarter time siren to break the visitors’ run but they held a 36-point advantage heading into the last term.
A seven-goal to one final term by the Panthers ensured they added all-important percentage and stamp their dominance on the contest.
Trengove continued to work hard for the Magpies, collecting 31 disposals, five marks and seven tackles, while Will Snelling (29) and Summerton (27) also found plenty of the footy.
Thomas and Davidson showed some good signs in the forward half with the latter snapping two very clever goals.
