First quarter

After winning the toss, the Power came out firing with hard running and numbers at the ball, the Club was unlucky to concede a free in the Dockers' goal area in the opening minutes, but a strong overhead mark by young ruckman Jarrad Redden prevented the men in purple putting a score on the board.

Jay Schulz converted from within the 50 metre arc to put Port Adelaide on the board before Travis Boak kicked an incredible Super Goal at the six minute mark of the first term - the duo opening up a solid lead for the Power early.

The Power's young guns have impressed so many this pre-season and continued to maintain an excellent presence up forward and in defence. Daniel Stewart goaling from a slight angle, before captain Dom Cassisi skidded a fourth major for the home side moments later.

Port Adelaide's attacking style of play maintained throughout the first quarter with Robbie Gray delivering to Matt Broadbent for a great goal.

Strong use of body from the likes of Carlile and Gray on the defensive 50 prevented Fremantle opportunities midway through the term.

It took Fremantle til the 20th minute to convert in front of goal, with Pavlich unlucky to miss one late in the quarter for the Dockers - the Power far more efficient in front of the sticks.

Jarrad Redden and Daniel Stewart continue to impress in the ruck against a strong Jonathon Griffin.

Quarter time scores
Port Adelaide 1. 4. 2 (35) lead
Fremantle 0. 1. 3. (9)

Second Quarter

Kicking against a slight breeze, the Power opened its second term the way it ended the first, with Jarrad Redden showing again why so many fans are excited about his potential as a key Port Adelaide ruckman.

Robbie Gray kicked truly for the Power two minutes into the quarter - extending the Power's lead to thirty three points.

Inaccurate defensive kicking let the Power down later in the term however, with poor conversion by the Dockers from three set shots only delivering Fremantle a single goal by the halfway point of the term.

The Power were hurt by a Matthew Pavlich Super Goal as the Dockers put on a strong five minute performance mid-way through the quarter- depriving Port Adelaide of any forward entry until the thirteen minute mark. Port Adelaide was able to stem the tide with its players resuming its competitive efforts in attack and defence - and held the scores steady through to a Jay Schulz goal from a fantastic mark some 20 metres from the scoreline - opening an 18 point margin.

John McCarthy led the disposals count at half time for Port Adelaide with fourteen touches and 64 Dream Team points, whilst Chad Wingard has impressed with a number of solid efforts up forward.

Half time scores
Port Adelaide 1. 6. 3 (48) lead
Fremantle 1. 2. 9. (30)

Third quarter

The Power came into the third quarter looking to play out a consistent term, having allowing the Dockers back into the match during the second.
An early goal from John Butcher was quickly followed by Brent Renouf's first goal in a Port Adelaide jumper - extending the Power to a comfortable five goal lead.

Despite the Power's lead, both sides played out a fairly even contest, with the March sun bearing down hard on the body - both clubs seeking to conserve and preserve their men.

As it had done in the second quarter, Fremantle entered into its own during the middle chunk of the third, with a couple of easy running shots on goal bolstering the Dockers' first half scoring efficiency.

Hamish Hartlett was subbed off late in the term after appearing to have his shoulder knocked in a contest, but reports suggest that no injury was sustained by the young midfielder.

An easy forward entry through Cassisi to Steve Salopek allowed Jay Schulz to convert his tenth goal from fifteen out shortly before three quarter time, aiding the Power's lead significantly. The Port Adelaide captain came into his own during the third quarter - picking up 17 touches in the famous #1 guernsey.

Robbie Gray and young forward Cameron O'Shea also found plenty of the ball, whilst Jarrad Redden continued to lead the hit outs for the Power.

Three quarter time scores
Port Adelaide 1.11.8 (83) lead
Fremantle 2. 3. 12 (48)

Fourth quarter

With the heat out of the game and players fatigued beneath the full sun of Encounter Bay, the match descended into a chip-kicking affair, with both clubs continuing to rotate off the reduced bench.

Port Adelaide maintained a comfortable lead throughout the final term, with little to report in terms of standout performances or significant change to the scoreboard.

The Power ran out 20 point winners with standout performances from Dom Cassisi, Robbie Gray and Jarrad Redden who again stood out as a genuine ruck option for the Power in 2012.

The Port Adelaide faithful would have enjoyed the hard performance of the Power at Encounter Bay this afternoon - with scoreboard pressure, strong tackling and good ball movement all hallmarks of an excellent performance for the black, white and teal.
