PORT ADELAIDE faces an Essendon side on Friday night that it has failed to beat in seven of the last nine meetings.

The Bombers have won the last two clashes involving the sides including the last time they met by 22 points in Round 4 at Etihad Stadium.

The Power’s last win against Essendon was in Round 3, 2016 by 61 points.

Port Adelaide and Essendon meet for the 30th time and the Power hold the advantage winning 16 games to 13.

Port Adelaide has won seven of 11 games at Adelaide Oval this season but have lost their last three by 22, seven and four points.

The Bombers have a great interstate record this season, with four wins from five trips.

Of the five previous Friday night games in which the sides have met, the Power has dominated, winning all but one.

The Power is the league’s highest ranked tackling teams, averaging 71 tackles per game, while the Bombers are averaging 65.9, with midfielder Devon Smith the No.1 tackling player in the competition.

The teams

Port Adelaide has made three changes to the side that lost to Collingwood last Saturday, with one of them forced.

An injured shoulder will end the season of midfielder Tom Rockliff while Aidyn Johnson and Riley Bonner have been omitted.

Ruckman Billy Frampton is set to make his AFL debut while Sam Powell-Pepper and Jake Neade have earned recalls.

Essendon has made two changes as well.

Injury to ruckman Tom Bellchambers has seen his season ended, while Matt Dea has been omitted.

Matthew Leuenberger replaces Bellchambers and Jayden Laverde has also returned to the side for his first game since Round 11.

From the coach

Ken Hinkley

“Nothing's done until it's done, that's where we are, we're in the fight.

"We're going to continue to fight really hard.

“We understand the side we're coming up against. Their season is done, but they've probably been the in-form team of the competition, so it's going to be an enormous challenge for us."

“It’s going to be a red-hot game, we know that. Their speed and their movement of ball, I think they’ve won eight out of their last ten, they’re as good as any.

“Right now, if there was a side to challenge the top two that are in there, maybe if Essendon was in there they’d be one of those teams that could provide the challenge.
