AHEAD of their meeting in Round 8 of the 2018 AFL Premiership
The Power had started the 2014 season with a comfortable win over Carlton but was coming up against an Adelaide side which was looking to respond in round two after going down to Geelong.
What eventuated was a remarkable match, complete with huge momentum swings, as Port Adelaide opened the redeveloped Adelaide Oval with a huge win over its cross-town rival.
Inspired by the dogged efforts of Hamish Hartlett and Brad Ebert, the Power burst out of the blocks with a five-goal to one opening quarter, including the first goal at the redeveloped arena by ruckman Matthew Lobbe.
The Crows clawed their way back into the contest after Carlton recruit Eddie Betts booted three goals in the second term to reduce the deficit to 18 points at the main break.
They continued to come at Port and eventually took the lead when Brodie Smith kicked accurately from distance, but there was one more momentum swing to come.
The Power then responded by kicking the next five goals in a devastating 14-minute patch and finished with 11 of the last 14 goals to cap a historic victory.
Chad Wingard (four goals, 17 disposals, six marks) and Jay Schulz (three goals, 19 disposals, 10 marks) were unstoppable up forward while Hartlett was rewarded with the Showdown Medal after racking up 29 disposals, six marks and a goal in a free-flowing and classy display.
