Can you explain what this development entails?

The development has six major components – A new Aboriginal Centre of Excellence, an upgraded high-performance centre, an expanded main oval and training field, an upgrade of the Port Club, upgraded Fos Williams Family Stand and remodelling of the entry to the oval, including a new Premiership Walk. Facilities will include a swimming pool, gymnasium and function centre.

Why are you undertaking this?

Port Adelaide exists to win premierships and make our community proud. This development will provide us with the facilities needed to achieve both these aims. We see this precinct as a dynamic representation of the future of this district – innovative, educational, high-performance, social and community-minded.

When will work start?

Work will start once the project is fully funded. We anticipate this to be later this year with the target of finishing early in 2020 to coincide with our 150th anniversary

How will work impact on nearby residents?

The work will take place entirely within the Oval precinct. We will be seeking to minimise any inconvenience to neighbours and nearby residents.

Where is the money coming from?

Further announcement about this will be made later this year.

Will the new facilities be accessible to the local community?

Yes, this development is designed for community use.

What is the Aboriginal Centre of Excellence?

A. The centre will provide long and short-term boarding facilities for young Aboriginal students wishing to pursue their education in the metropolitan area. Port Adelaide is highly regarded for its Aboriginal programs and cultural awareness training and this is an extension of our programs.

How many students will it take?

We expect it will hold about 50 male and female students between the ages of 15 and 17 from indigenous communities across the State.

What funding have you received for the Centre?

We were provided with $4 million by the Federal Government last year and have received commitments for additional funding from both the Premier and SA Best, depending on the results of the State election on March 17. Further announcements about funding will be made later this year.

Why is Port Adelaide building this facility?

PAFC has a strong commitment towards the development of young indigenous footballers as they complete their education. We also have industry leading Aboriginal programs and cultural awareness training. This centre allows us to consolidate these programs on the one site.
