JUST one Port Adelaide player was recognised by the AFL coaches with votes out of the disappointing loss to Fremantle in Perth.
Chad Wingard was awarded three of a possible ten votes in the 2018 SHADFORTH FINANCIAL GROUP AFLCA CHAMPION PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD.
Wingard was among his side’s best on a trying day, finishing with 24 touches – 14 of them contested.
He also had seven clearances, six tackles and two goals.
The 24-year-old managed two rebound 50s and four inside 50s to be one of the more influential players, despite being on the losing side.
Fremantle’s Lachie Neale and David Mundy each received nine votes to be the highest pollers on the ground.
Neale had a game-high 33 disposals to go with four marks, nine clearances and seven inside
Mundy was also damaging with 29 disposals, five marks, three clearances, five tackles and a goal.
Fellow Dockers Luke Ryan (6 votes), Brennan Cox (2 votes) and Bradley Hill (1 vote) were the others to receive votes out of the game.
Max Gawn (Melbourne), Dyson Heppell (Essendon), Jeremy McGovern (West Coast Eagles) and Callan Ward (Greater Western Sydney) all received the maximum 10 votes from the AFL coaches for Round 17.
The tally means Gawn is now three votes clear at the top of the leaderboard, having extended his lead over Carlton’s Patrick Cripps, who scored eight votes in his side’s loss to St Kilda, while North Melbourne’s Shaun Higgins has moved into
