PORT ADELAIDE will work with the Government of South Australia to provide transition opportunities for state automotive supply-chain workers, it has been announced.

The Automotive Works in Transition program – or Drive Your Future – provides career advice, skills recognition, training for new jobs and advice on small business creation for those workers affected by the end of automotive manufacturing in South Australia.

Partners and spouses of eligible works can also access career advice and transition services.

Port Adelaide will conduct a Family Day and Financial Planning Session for those participating in the program on 13 August before the Power clashes with Collingwood, where club chairman David Koch will deliver a financial planning seminar.

The club - through its community development arm Power Community Ltd - will also deliver its acclaimed Wellbeing and Resilience and Power to be Positive programs to workers from four affected supply-chain businesses and children of affected worker families in five northern and southern suburbs schools.

In addition, video packages featuring Power players and officials will discuss challenges affecting wellbeing and resilience of workers.

“The transition of the automotive manufacturing industry out of the city’s northern and southern suburbs is an issue that hits home at Port Adelaide as we have high numbers of supporters living in these areas, and employed by these industries," Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas said.

“We partner with the SA Medical Health and Research Institute, and we have a strong relationship with the Government of South Australia in delivering our successful wellbeing and resilience program through its education and correctional services departments, so it is a natural extension of this that we run this initiative as part of Drive Your Future.

“Our chairman David Koch will provide practical financial advice via this seminar, and our Power Community Ltd team will deliver its wellbeing and resilience programs to workers and children of affected families over the coming weeks.

“It is important that Port Adelaide continues to participate in the community with meaningful and practical measures that benefit South Australians – we see this as an important initiative for state development and worker support.

“We are proud to make a contribution towards transitioning automotive workers to new opportunities.”
