A FLURRY of activity is expected in the last two days of the Telstra AFL Trade Period with plenty of negotiations yet to be resolved.
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest developments each morning until the end of the Trade Period on Wednesday, October 16.
Saints and Freo close to Hill deal
Fremantle speedster Bradley Hill is set to become a Saint by Tuesday morning, Hill's manager has told Channel Seven.
Late on Monday it seemed the stalemate would finally be broken with St Kilda believed to be close to securing draft picks that would seal the deal for the 26-year-old wingman.
Negotiations have come a considerable way since the initial meeting between the two clubs, which lasted no more than three minutes when the Saints walked out after what they deemed were unrealistic demands from Freo.
To the Dockers' chagrin, St Kilda then traded its pick No.6 to Greater Western Sydney in exchange for picks 12 and 18, a move the Saints hoped would also help them land other targets but one that appeared decidedly risky from a Hill perspective.
However, Hill's manager Colin Young revealed significant progress had been made and he was confident St Kilda would satisfy Fremantle by involving another club.
"There's been a lot of work done on the weekend and this morning so I'm hoping in the next couple of hours we'll get a positive outcome, if not tomorrow morning," Young told Channel Seven on Monday night before meeting with St Kilda.
"To the credit of both clubs they worked pretty hard over the weekend. We were in constant dialogue, the three parties.
"James (Gallagher, St Kilda's list manager) was meeting with other clubs today to try to get a positive outcome for the Fremantle Football Club so I'm hoping that either tonight or tomorrow morning 'Belly' (Freo football manager Peter Bell) might get it across the line."
Young confirmed that another of his clients, Geelong runner Sam Menegola, would remain a Cat next year after it had been reported he could be Freo-bound.
Swans keen on Lion Lewy
As revealed by AFL.com.au in early October, Sydney is interested in uncontracted Brisbane runner Lewis Taylor, who is said to be open to the idea after playing just five games this year as the Lions surged to second in the home and away season.
According to News Corp, the diminutive 24-year-old is weighing up a three-year offer from the Swans.
Sydney will be keen to acquire a little man in the event that they trade small forward Tom Papley to Carlton.
The Lions are reportedly asking for a second-round pick from the Swans for Taylor, the 2014 NAB AFL Rising Star who has played 112 AFL games.
Big Ben could help Joe become a Swan
The Trade Period throws up all manner of creative proposals and here's another, with a News Corp report suggesting Essendon should try to convince North Melbourne to part with spearhead Ben Brown to ensure Joe Daniher's passage to Sydney.
With little progress made in trade talks between the Bombers and the Swans, Essendon has stated it might only surrender the contracted Daniher if it can snare a like-for-like replacement for the star key forward, and News Corp believes a transaction involving Brown would satisfy the needs of all three clubs.
In what would amount to a blockbuster trade, 26-year-old Brown would join Essendon, North would receive picks No. 5 (from Essendon) and No. 9 (from Sydney's expected trade of Papley to Carlton) and the Swans would get 25-year-old Daniher.
The carrot for the Kangaroos would be the rare chance to enliven their list with three top-10 picks, given they already have pick No. 8.
But relax, Roos fans – it ain't happening. News Corp reported that Brown is happy at Arden Street and wouldn't entertain a trade.
