PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus says he wants Travis Boak to inform the Power as soon as he can of his intentions regarding his future at the club.

Boak will go home to Melbourne over the bye weekend to talk his playing future over with his family and Primus said that he expected an answer soon after.

"I think every footy club would love to know earlier rather than later where they sit with player contracts and coach contracts and all those sorts of things," Primus said.

"Travis has put a timeline on it and obviously after those three weeks, I think it is, when he goes home, we'll decide then.

"We'll certainly be asking him where his decision's at, we don't want it to drag on until the end of the year."

Boak has said his family would play a major role in whether he remains at Port Adelaide or seeks a trade to a Victorian club.

If he decided to leave the Power, Primus didn't rule out refusing to play the reigning club champion.

"It'll be an interesting discussion to have, for sure," he said.

"That's where it'd be great to know exactly where we sit early on, because we are about the here and now, but we're also about where we need to be by the end of the year and next year and the year after that."

Primus said he took no issue with Carlton coach Brett Ratten expressing his interest in securing Boak's services, labeling it an expected response and admitting there was at least one Blue he'd like to see at Alberton.

"I think every club would want Travis," he said.

"If I got asked if I'd like Chris Judd, I'd like Chris Judd if he's available.

"That's the nature of the business, you want to get as many good players to your club as you can."

Boak will line up for his 100th AFL game on Saturday night and Primus flagged halting Carlton's midfield drive as the key to success.

After nullifying Brent Harvey's influence in their win over North Melbourne and keeping Gold Coast's Gary Ablett to his quietest game of the year last week, Kane Cornes is set to go head-to-head with Judd.

Cornes has re-ignited his career in 2012 after speculation surrounded his future late last season.

"He'd probably be set for Judd, I would have thought," Primus revealed.

"Juddy's still dominating their clearances a fair way away from their next best clearance player, but they are putting a lot of different guys through [the midfield] now with the injuries that they've got.

"But yeah, we'd look at something like [a tag] again."
