• After the siren: Crunch time after one round?

It was only week one and we were given a quick reminder of the rollercoaster ride that is AFL Fantasy. There were highs, with none higher than Josh Kennedy’s 180 and there were lows, such as my skipper Dan Hannebery copping a concussion while on the way to a thumping score. We had great rookies on the bench and under-performers on the field and as frustrating as all of this was … It was great to be back and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Fantasy Pig
The hype surrounding Patrick Dangerfield’s move to the Cats proved warranted as he went on an absolute tear against the reigning premiers. Danger quickly jumped to the ‘must have’ category after collecting 43 possessions, five marks and five tackles for 137. And to think he missed a couple of ‘sitter’ set shots among his three behinds, it could quite easily have been 150 on debut. The Hawks didn’t pay much attention to Danger, and this will certainly not be the case every week but good luck to anybody trying to run with him, he was in beast mode.

Fantasy Prestigiacomo
After attending a huge percentage of centre bounces over the NAB Challenge, Jack Steele was earmarked as the replacement to step straight into Adam Treloar's vacant ball-winning position in the midfield. In the last game before the season proper, Steele reached triple figures after a trademark ‘tackling machine’ performance, seemingly ticking all boxes as a mid priced DPP. Well… After just two tackles and 11 possessions, while rarely showing his face at a centre bounce, Steele has prematurely found his name on many chopping blocks after a disappointing 47.

Piglet
While many expected young Swan Callum Mills to be the first Piglet named in the Swans camp, it was in fact the $125,000 midfielder George Hewett. After a sensation NAB Challenge where Hewett scored at almost a point per minute, he carried his form into he premiership season with a well rounded game consisting of 15 possessions, seven marks, seven tackles and a goal for 95. If you did not start with him, it needs to be rectified this week as he is the pick of the cash cows.
