PORT Adelaide recruit Sam Powell-Pepper has signalled his intention to bring physically and toughness to the Power.
The Western Australian and fellow draftees Todd Marshall, Joe Atley and Willem Drew joined their Power teammates for the first time at a training session at Grange Oval on Monday.
The Power selected Powell-Pepper with their second pick and 18th overall at the NAB AFL Draft last Friday night.
At 187cm and 90kg, Powell-Pepper has the physical attributes to make the leap to the AFL straight away.
Powell-Pepper told reporters he enjoyed doing the hard yards for his team.
"Ever since I could remember playing junior footy I've gone in hard, bumping and making tackles," Powell-Pepper said.
"I like that side of footy.
"My expectations are to put my head down and work hard and earn the respect of the boys and learn the culture and the game-plan of the team."
Powell-Pepper averaged 22 disposals in the colts for East Perth this year before playing the final six games in the seniors, including the semi-final against Peel Thunder.
"When I played those last six games, I thought I could have a crack at AFL level," Powell-Pepper said.
"In those few league games I played, I played on the half-forward flank and in the midfield.
"I relied on my pace and my hardness around the ball and defensive pressure.
"When I go into attack, I like to hit the scoreboard and have score involvements."
Powell-Pepper sees himself starting on a half-forward flank in his AFL career before eventually moving into the midfield.
He has already earned comparisons to Power tough nut Ollie Wines and Richmond star Dustin Martin.
Powell-Pepper watched the draft from his home in Perth and was shocked when his name was read out.
"I had all the family and friends over, I wasn't expecting to go in the first round, I was expecting late second round," Powell-Pepper said.
"To hear my name called out in the first round was crazy.
"Ken (Power coach Ken Hinkley) called me five or 10 minutes later to congratulate me and to say he can't wait to see me."
Hinkley and several senior players including Wines, captain Travis Boak and Robbie Gray are in China this week on a promotional tour.
Key forward Charlie Dixon was an interested spectator at training, on crutches after having ankle surgery last week.
Dixon is expected to resume training after the Christmas break.
