TWILIGHT and nighttime starts for the AFL Grand Final have been bandied about for several years, but the league's chief executive has come up with a novel new way to decide when the biggest event in Australian sport will begin.
On Melbourne radio station 3AW, McLachlan asked 'Mornings' host Neil Mitchell when he'd like to start the grand final.
"Let's decide now," McLachlan told Mitchell near the end of his interview.
Mitchell: "All right, what is it?"
McLachlan: "What do you want?"
Mitchell: "I want the traditional game."
(That's a 2.30pm start).
McLachlan: "All right done."
When Mitchell asked whether he could then decide the starting times for the next 10 years, McLachlan was quick to say he could only have the deciding vote on the 2016 edition.
Looks like a new starting time will need to wait at least another season...
