FRIDAY NIGHT'S clash between Port Adelaide and Essendon could see a new record attendance set for games between the two teams.

Strong ticket sales throughout the week suggest over 46,000 fans will head to Adelaide Oval tomorrow night to watch Port Adelaide fight for their second win for the 2016 AFL Premiership season.

This comes following the Easter Sunday clash against St Kilda, which attracted 43,807 people.

When the Power sided against the Bombers in Round 16, 2014, they drew the biggest crowd for a Power v Bombers game, with a 46,786 attendance at the Adelaide Oval.

Friday's blockbuster could see that figure eclipsed, especially as Thursday and Friday night games at Adelaide Oval drew a significant number of fans in 2015.

The estimated attendance at Adelaide Oval will also support the broadcast of the Round 3 clash in China, in a match that could rewrite AFL viewing history with over two million people tuning in across the globe.

Port Adelaide v Essendon attendances
1. 46,786 – Rd 16, 2014 (Adelaide Oval)
2. 43,012 – Rd 1, 2000 (Etihad Stadium)
