JAY SCHULZ has undergone successful surgery to a prolapsed disc and the Power will apply to the AFL to place him on their long-term injury list.
The 30-year-old experienced back aggravation following the Power’s opening round win over St Kilda and missed games in Rounds 2 and 3.
He met with a specialist on Monday evening and went under the knife on Tuesday afternoon.
The surgery, while successful, will see Schulz spend an indefinite period in rehabilitation, according to Port Adelaide’s head of high performance Darren Burgess.
“We tried running him at training over the weekend and he pulled up pretty sore after that,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“We were able to see a specialist late yesterday who recommended surgery.
“He went in for surgery this afternoon, which was a success, and now it’s just about ensuring his care during recovery.
“Backs need a bit more care, so we need to take the rehab slowly with him, at this stage we’ve not put a time frame on his return.”
