Wines came to Alberton via pick seven in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and debuted in Round 1 this year.
Lauded as a quality inside midfielder upon his arrival, Wines immediately settled into life with the Power and earned the affectionate nickname ‘quadzilla’ from his teammates for having the body of a mature AFL player.
He played every game of the 2013 season and was nominated for the NAB AFL Rising Star in his first match against the Demons at the MCG.
Wines expressed gratitude to the club on accepting the medal from Wanganeen.
"It was a bit of an unknown for me at first being drafted to Port Adelaide from country Victoria," said Wines.
"There was a bit of unease from my family because we didn't know much about the club.
"But we were assured from Ken Hinkley and Peter Rohde that it would be a great opportunity at the club and after the season we've had I think it's shown!
"It's been a really great year at Port, I don't think I could have come to a better club!"
Jake Neade finished second and Jack Hombsch third in the voting for the Wanganeen Medal.
