THE Port Adelaide army continues to flood the Adelaide Oval from all corners of the city and it's thanks to them that the Power lifts.

So says the club's captain and latest Peter Badcoe VC Medallist Travis Boak.

Match report: Power breaks Cats curse

"It's been like that every game we've played here and the atmosphere when you run out for the first time in your warmup is like you're running out in front of 50,000," Boak said.

"The noise just stays and is great to be involved in.

"When we kick goals and get a little run on, it's just unbelievable and gives us a bit more edge.

"I think for our fans, they need to know how important they are to this group - they've been fantastic in the last year-and-a-half especially, but they've also stuck through the tough times and we're trying to reward them."

His thoughts were echoed by senior coach Ken Hinkley, who described the influence of the crowd as "massive".

"I don't care what anyone says: the crowd is still an important factor in the game," Hinkley said.

"From a playing point of view - and it's been a long time [since then] for me - they [the players] must feed off that energy.

"Sometimes you're looking for some energy and sometimes it going to come from unusual places.

"Hopefully it comes from winning hard contested ball; hopefully sometimes it comes from the support of their fans and honouring them, and playing for them."

Hinkley's selection dilemma

Port Adelaide's attendance figure at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday night was its highest home crowd in a non-Showdown and its fifth-highest in a minor round home game.

It comes after more than 50,000 saw the Power host the historic first showdown at the redeveloped Oval and a bumper 36,231 crowd against the Brisbane Lions.

It bodes well for the rest of the season with night-time blockbusters against Hawthorn, Essendon, Sydney and Carlton still to come.

The club still has general admission and 3-game memberships available at weareportadelaide.com.au or via its membership hotline 1300 GO PAFC (1300 467 232).
