A BLITZ from Travis Boak in the final quarter has helped Port Adelaide fight its way to a 17-point win over the Gold Coast Suns.

Boak had 11 disposals in the last quarter to help the Power to a crucial win in the late context of its season.

With Carlton defeating Richmond earlier in the day, it also helps Port maintain its hold on eighth place on the ladder.

Conditions at the ground were changeable, with the strong forecast winds prevailing to the southern end of the ground.

Things started brilliantly for Port Adelaide, with Justin Westhoff opened the team’s account with a strong running goal.

Port then burst with a seven-minute purple patch with goals to Brad Ebert, Westhoff again and Campbell Heath.

With its superior numbers around the ball and running through the middle, the Power looked the cleaner team and had the legs to match.

It kicked 7.5 - it's best opening quarter for the year.

But it wasn't smooth sailing from there.

Cameron Hitchcock was substituted from the match with injury, bringing Ollie Wines into the game in the second quarter.

The Suns then proceeded to peg the margin back over the next two quarters to hit the lead.

Gold Coast's run and carry was superior in the third term, allowing it to kick six goals-to-two to hold a nine-point advantage at the final change.

Cue Travis Boak.

The Power captain was awesome in the final term, with over 10 disposals and a crucial centre clearance to almost single-handedly wrest the Power back into the lead.

But it wasn't solely down to him.

Chad Wingard impacted in the final term to kick two important goals, while Jay Schulz converted his second to give Port critical breathing space.

But it was a more level-headed defensive game that got the Power out of trouble at critical points late in the game to help the Power to its first win over the Suns at AAMI Stadium by 17 points.
