BRENT Renouf says that Gary Ablett’s ball-winning ability will be curbed if Port Adelaide puts in a full team effort on Saturday against the Gold Coast.

The Power ruckman told reporters that the best way to limit Ablett’s ability to win the ball will be to uphold the squad’s game plan and team values when playing on Metricon Stadium for the first time.

“With a team effort, team structure,” said Renouf when asked about how to stop the prolific ball winner.

“Like most of the great players, he’s really strong in the core and rarely goes to ground so he’s always in the contest.

“He’s a really good player and we’ll do our best to beat him and beat the team this week.”

Kane Cornes was back in his preferred zone last weekend after coach Matthew Primus tasked him as a tag for Kangaroos midfielder Brent Harvey.

Renouf was coy when asked whether Cornes would take to Ablett this weekend, but is confident in the senior player’s ability to perform the duties asked of him on the weekend.

“Kane did a great job on [Brent] Harvey, we had a number of players play important roles for us (and) I think Kane will play his role wherever he is.”

“With Kane you know what you’re going to get each week.”
