HE’S had a breakout game and earned applause from footy media, coaches and supporters alike, but Brendon Ah Chee won’t be in contention for the NAB Rising Star award this season.
With the performance of his career on Saturday, many expected the young midfielder would be in the running for the accolade.

But unfortunately for ‘Arch’, he's just ten days too old to be considered for the award.
His birthday falls on December 21, 1993 – which means he turned 21 before January 1 and is therefore deemed ineligible.
Ah Chee’s impressive Round 20 performance earned him a best on ground nod, a Mark of the Year nomination along with plenty of love from supporters for collecting 24 disposals and three goals in just his ninth senior game.

The youngster is moving from strength to strength, with Port Adelaide coaching staff backing him as part of their midfield depth.
Midfield manager Michael Voss thought his game against GWS was “exceptional”, labelling him best on ground.
“He was pretty determined to fulfil his role for the team and be aggressive at the contest, and he ended up finding a bit of the ball at the back end of that,” Voss said.
“He was able to play multiple roles - he ended up spending a lot of time in the centre square bounce, and inside, but he also spent some time outside which I think he’s developing in his game a little bit.
“It’s a compelling case he’s putting to his name, if he can play in different positions… it just makes you more versatile and more valuable.”
Ah Chee also scored a perfect 10 in AFL Coaches Association votes, and was the only Power player to make afl.com.au’s Team of the Week.
