Port Adelaide defender Nick Salter has endured another setback in his push to fill a mainstay position in the Power back line with scans and x-rays showing "slight stress to the bone" according to Football Operations Manager, Peter Rohde.

Salter attended the Power's 20 point win over Fremantle last Saturday but was forced out of the starting lineup after experiencing soreness prior to the match.

"There is no crack and there's no break in it but it's around where he has screws from the surgery he had last year - there's a stress reaction and that might be a pre-cursor to a stress fracture," said Rohde.

The highly-rated Salter who has been a standout in the SANFL during his time at Woodville West Torrens and as an emerging defender with the Power, missed a chunk of the 2012 season recovering from both foot and calf injuries.

Rohde feels that the 24 year old has coped with the setback but asserts that it will be some time before he returns to the Port Adelaide side.

"He seems to be dealing with it (the injury) ok. He's very disappointed, of course, because he came back and played pretty well in the half he played (against West Coast) to put himself into contention to play at the start of the year - but this is going to mean that he won't play until Round 1 or Round 2 in the SANFL."

"That said, it's not like he's got to go back to square one and he's in pretty good form, so hopefully he can keep his fitness up and get back quickly."

Salter will spend one to two weeks recuperating ahead of being eased back into training at the club.
