ENERGYAUSTRALIA will offer a weekly prize to a local club aligned to the player named best afield in the SANFL by Port Adelaide's fans.
Every week of the league season will see Port Adelaide's supporters vote on a 3-2-1 basis for their best players from each Magpies match.
At the end of the week, the player with the most votes will win a football pack from EnergyAustralia and SANFL ball supplier Burley.
For the club's local South Australian players, their aligned club will be the junior team they first honed their skills at.
Interstate recruits will have one of Port Adelaide's metropolitan or country 'heartland' clubs randomly assigned to them.
That means while Port locals like Steven Summerton will play for their local junior clubs like North Haven, Tom Logan will represent the West Coast Hawks from the Mid West Football League.
It's all about making sure Port's traditional heartland remains cared for, both in the city and far away.
"EnergyAustralia wanted to spread the love of the Fans' MVP in the SANFL this year, and a great way of doing that is by supporting traditional, grassroots junior clubs with historic links to Port Adelaide," says Port Adelaide's general manager of corporate Richard Kelly.
"But aligning interstate players to these clubs, we're able to have some of the best talent in the country representing the clubs that developed Magpies over many, many years.
"It's also important that our SA-based players can represent their own junior clubs too, so many clubs from right around SA will keep that connection with their own players."
