IF THE AFL is considering giving access opportunity for players developed inside club talent academies, they'll have the backing of Port Adelaide supporters.

Over 70 percent of fans polled in the BIG PORT SURVEY want to see all AFL clubs given the chance to develop young footballers through in-house academy programs, similar to the way the Queensland and New South Wales clubs currently do.

Port Adelaide is set to start female and multicultural talent programs in 2016, in addition to its existing Aboriginal AFL Academy, with chief executive Keith Thomas affirming this strategy on Wednesday night.

Academy programs beyond those used by the AFL's northern clubs exist across the league, but like the Power's Aboriginal academy, give no draft advantage.

It is anticipated the AFL will look to introduce greater parity among its 18 clubs by allowing priority selections for academy-developed players in coming seasons.
