portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at who’s in the mix for selection for both sides as Port Adelaide face Hawthorn under lights this Friday.

Port Adelaide

With news confirming Jackson Trengove’s season is over after having surgery on his shoulder, an opportunity opens for another defender to step up.

SEASON OVER: Jackson Trengove undergoes shoulder surgery

The change could come from youngster Tom Clurey who replaced Trengove in light of injury several times this season, before being sent back to the SANFL last week.

Nathan Krakouer is also in contention for a more established spot back at the senior level and could provide some defensive speed to the Power’s back line.

He was named as the sub in Round 20 following a hamstring injury.

Jay Schulz will be pushing for selection after being sidelined last-minute in against GWS with a back complaint.

He’ll be tested this week to determine his fitness to face the Hawks.

And after being dropped from the Power side last week due to poor form, Matthew Lobbe is also pushing the case for his return. He dominated the ruck in the SANFL with 64 hit outs, to put him back in the mix to rejoin the senior side.

Hawthorn

Ruckman Jon Ceglar is a possible return for Friday night, if fully recovered from back spasms which saw him sit out Round 20.

ENEMY: Ceglar a chance for Friday night

Veteran Hawk David Hale stepped up last week for Ceglar against the Cats and is likely to hit the field again if Ceglar is ruled out for another round.

Premiership player Will Langford made a return from a knee injury through the VFL (Box Hill Hawks) last week, but general manager of football Chris Fagan said we’re unlikely to see him in the AFL side against the Power.

“I would suspect he’d need another week at Box Hill before he’d be in line for selection…he’ll build on that match conditioning,” Fagan said.

Meanwhile Sam Grimley has been performing consistently well in the VFL and is pushing for selection in the senior squad.

He’s kicked multiple goals in 11 of 16 games this year, booting three on the weekend for Box Hill.

Grimley will be aiming to build on his three senior games in the tail end of the season, with his impressive performances earning nods from Hawks coaching staff.
