Power To The Ports
Port Adelaide’s players are taking the club to South Australia’s north on Tuesday and Wednesday this week
The team has divided into small groups to visit more than 5000 students at 30 schools and community centres in the regional cities and surrounding areas over the two days. Players will hold kick and catch sessions with the children and also spread healthy lifestyle messages, focusing on the benefits of good nutrition and exercise as well as setting goals and making positive life choices.
Tuesday will see the players speak with students at Port Broughton Area School, Laura Primary School, Wirrabara Primary School, Booleroo District School, Melrose Primary School, Wilmington Primary School, Napperby Primary School, Port Germein Primary School, Crystal Brook Primary School and Quorn Area School.
They will also spend time at Port Augusta Special School, Carlton School, Stirling North Primary School, Willsden Primary School, Flinders View Primary School and Port Augusta West Primary School.
On Tuesday afternoon, the playing group will by joined by the Power coaches to stage a NAB AFL Auskick Super Clinic at Port Augusta’s Central Oval. Hundreds of children are expected to turn out with their parents to get some tips from their AFL heroes.
Port Adelaide captain Domenic Cassisi urged supporters young and old to turn out for the public session in Port Augusta.
“The Super Clinic will be one of the highlights of the trip and we’d love to see as many kids and parents as possible for a kick around on the oval on Tuesday afternoon,” Cassisi said.
“As players we all look forward to the Community Camp every year because we get close to supporters and members in areas where they don’t always have that opportunity.”
Coach Matthew Primus and his assistants will also take a local junior talent squad for a training run before sitting down with a range of local sporting mentors for a discussion about coaching techniques and philosophy.
The players have taken to Twitter to show how they enjoy visiting the community in regional areas.
Alipate Carlile (@AlipateCarlile) “Just landed in Port Augusta for community camp. Beautiful part of Australia #givingabitback”
Jacob Surjan (@Surj9) “At the airport this morning off to Port Augusta for community camp. Should be a great few days there”
The club will take part in a further round of community engagement in the regions on Wednesday.
Port Adelaide is honoured to be in the Port Augusta and Port Pirie regions which have never been more important to South Australia due to the mining, defence, rural production and tourism industries.
