PORT ADELAIDE suffered a frustrating 25-point loss at the hands of the Western Bulldogs in very wet conditions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Here are some of the talking points for the Power from the game.
Hartlett continues his improvement from lengthy spell out:
Hamish Hartlett had his best game in Power colours since returning from more than 12 months out of the game.
Hartlett gathered 23 touches in his return to AFL footy against Fremantle, before 16 disposals and six marks in Port’s 11-point victory over Geelong.
But on Saturday night, the 28-year-old was one of the Power’s shining lights, collecting 29 touches and seven marks in an otherwise disappointing loss.
Lycett backs it up:
Scott Lycett backed up his best-on-ground performance against the Cats last weekend with another strong showing against the Bulldogs.
Lycett had 21 disposals (17 of them contested), 42 hit-outs, 10 one-percenters and nine tackles.
Port dominated the hit-outs 60-19 but were unable to take advantage at ground level.
Power needs to improve efficiency in forward half:
Port had the better of the Bulldogs in inside 50 entries (69-49) but were only able to manage five goals on Saturday night.
While the conditions weren’t great for clean football, it has been an issue senior coach Ken Hinkley and co-captain Tom Jonas have both addressed in the media in recent times.
In 2019, Port is ranked first in the competition for inside 50s per game, but is ranked eighth for goals per game.
The Cats - who are the number one ranked side for conversion from inside 50s - kick a goal from 27 per cent entries, compared to Port’s 19.5 per cent. The AFL average is just under 23 per cent.
