Port Adelaide’s passionate members are the club’s newest recruiters as it aims for 40,000 paid-up supporters in 2012.

It’s launched Target 40,000, a scheme that encourages our most powerful ambassadors to recruit new members and gives prizes to those who are the most successful.

Target 40,000 builds on the recent What Would It Take? campaign in which the club wrote directly to former members asking what it could do to get them back on board.

Port Adelaide chief executive officer Keith Thomas said the new initiative was aimed at getting existing members to help identify the many supporters the club doesn’t have contact with.

“We’ve already got nearly 30,000 members signed up for 2012 and they are the perfect people to help the club in its next recruiting mission,” Thomas said.

“They can be really influential in helping us to reach those long term supporters who either have never been members or gave up their membership several years ago and are no longer in contact with the club.

“Our members are great representatives for their club and ideally placed to convince others of why membership is so important. They know better than anyone why it’s great value, why it’s a great time to share the excitement of being a member of Port Adelaide and the sense of belonging that membership delivers.”

“If every member helps us recruit another member then we will be in fantastic shape. We may not get that many, but every additional supporter we get to sign up is special to our club and very important to our success.

“By building our membership base we will make our club stronger and we are determined to do that, especially heading towards the shift of our AFL games to Adelaide Oval.

The scheme will run until the end of May, with our recruiters awarded points for registering and then for getting potential members to members to at first register and then sign up.

Port Adelaide will reward its number one membership recruiter with $1870 cash and a 2013 Club 1870 membership valued at $750. The second and third place-getters will win Apple iPads while the fourth prize winner will be treated to an exclusive game day experience with the Power or the Magpies.

Everyone who recruits a new member will receive a certificate of appreciation while a random new member will go into a draw for a team-signed guernsey.

2012 membership packages are capped at 2010 prices, with access to every one of the Power’s home games available from around $15 a month on the PAFC Forever part-payment plan.
