PORT ADELAIDE young gun Connor Rozee chatted with Nick Dal Santo and Jack Heverin on SEN Melbourne on Tuesday morning.
Here are the major talking points:
Connor Rozee on his second pre-season:
“I’d say it’s a little bit easier.
“I’ve come in a little bit fitter and I guess you know a little bit more of what to expect.
“That side of it mentally is a little bit easier and I’m a little bit fitter as well.
Rozee on how his body pulled up from his firsts season of AFL football:
“Surprisingly I didn’t pull up too bad.
“I think the middle stage of the season was probably where I started to get a little bit fatigued.
“Luckily enough I was able to come home strong and finish off the year pretty well.
“There were stages throughout the year where my body was feeling pretty sore, but during the end stages of the year I was feeling pretty good.
Rozee on his expectations of AFL football:
“It was pretty much everything I thought it was going to be - it was awesome to be honest.
“I really just wanted to play one game coming in, so to be able to play the whole year, and to have a couple of my mates Xavier (Duursma) and Zak (Butters) to play the whole year with them was pretty awesome, and the fans were awesome as well.
“I loved every minute of it.
Rozee on his performance against Brisbane in round 3:
“It was massive for my confidence, I think.
“Coming into that game, I was really trying to establish myself as a forward and being able to play a good game really gave me confidence for the rest of the year that I had the talent to play at that level.
“For the rest of the year, I took little parts of that game and took it into the rest of the year.
Rozee on splitting time between the midfield and forward:
“I really enjoyed playing forward, to be honest, last year.
“We have a few really experienced players down there in Charlie Dixon and Robbie Gray to learn from at training and that sort of stuff.
“I loved every minute of it last year, but I think this year hopefully I will spend a little bit more time in the midfield.
“I got dabbles of it last year. I’ve been training a little bit more with the midfield this pre-season.
Rozee on the captaincy announcement:
“Obviously I’ve only been here for 12 months, so it’s hard to gauge things 100 per cent.
“I think Tommy (Jonas) is definitely the right man for the job at this stage - Ollie (Wines) did a terrific job last year, but I think it was hard for him not being able to be out on the park as much as he would’ve liked.
“At this stage, I think the best position for the club was one captain going forward, and Tommy was definitely the man ready for that.
Rozee on Tom Jonas as a leader:
“He is a really good captain.
“Behind the scenes, he is a pretty laid-back character - he can get pretty aggressive on the field, he’s a pretty stern bloke.
“But off the field, he’s pretty quiet. He likes to get around the young boys, which is good. He sets really high standards at training.
