SMOOTH-MOVING Port Adelaide wingman Karl Amon chatted to Sunshine Coast media on Tuesday morning.
Here are the takeaways from his press conference:
Amon on the conditions for training on the Sunshine Coast:
“We came up here for the humid conditions and that’s what we’ve got,”
“It’s been really hot. Yesterday was in the high-30s maybe even 40s. It’s been really good to get up here as a group and train really well.
“Each session is hard, but it’s all about backing it up and doing it the next day.
“As a group, we have done that really well so far. We are in the final few days, and the group has performed really well.”
Amon on his 2019 season:
“Last year I was pleased with the improvement I had,”
“I just want to build on that and take that form int o next year. Certainly, I want to take my game further and see how far I can go.
“With the new contract, I just want to keep improving.”
Amon on getting away as a team:
“It’s always good to get away as a group,”
“We don’t get the opportunity to do it often - certainly, as a whole club. For us to come up here at the sports hub - we are all staying together. We are doing everything together.
“It’s good to get away and build that connection as a team.”
Amon on the expectations for season 2020:
“Every year the expectation is to play finals,”
“That is certainly no different next year. We know what we need to build on, and hopefully we can do that in the pre-season.
“We want to come out next year and string some consistency together and play some really good football to reach finals.”
Amon on the new draftees:
“They have been at the club for a few weeks,”
“And to come up here and give it a real crack, that’s all we expect from them. They are a really young group and hopefully they can build on what some of the young guys did last year.
“It’s good for them to get up here and build relationships with players.”
Amon on competitive training:
“Zak Butters has come back in some really good form,”
“Xavier Duursma is pushing me as well. You have the older guys like Boaky who is always up there as well.
“It’s really good to have that competition and we push each other along really well.”
Amon on the feeling after five days on the camp thus far:
“The bodies are getting pretty sore at the moment,”
“The boys are going to give it a red-hot crack. The camp has been super so far. We have got a lot out of it.
“Hopefully we can build on that and go forward in 2020.”
