PORT ADELAIDE defender turned midfielder Dan Houston is feeling more comfortable in the centre of the ground after another strong pre-season.
Houston played an on-ball role during the Power’s victory over St Kilda in Shanghai last season, and continued that throughout the second half of 2019.
He is now working hard to stay in the midfield in 2020.
“I’ve worked hard on my running,” Houston told FIVEaa’s Rowey and Bicks on Monday evening.
“Going into the midfield and training in the midfield throughout the pre-season, which has also helped.
“I ran a pb (personal best) in the pre-season for our time trial, which was good. I’m learning from a lot of the boys in there.
“It is becoming more of a habit playing in there now, and I feel a lot more comfortable.”
The Oakleigh Chargers product said he is an adaptable player because he is always willing to learn from those around him.
“Growing up, I played a lot up forward and then played in the middle,” Houston said.
“I have had some good people around me - coaches and players who have helped me blend into those different positions really well. I have some great teammates who always help me out.
“Learning is one of my strengths, and putting that into play as well.”
Houston - who was selected with pick 45 in the 2016 Rookie Draft - said he prides himself on always working hard at training.
“When I was drafted, I was probably lucky - I deserved to be at that pick,” he said.
“Kenny has always reiterated to me to work hard and he will give me games.
“I worked really hard at the start and I still work hard on my game.”
Heading into the Port Adelaide’s important 150th anniversary year, the 22-year-old said it was a privilege to represent the club.
“A lot of our supporters are very passionate,” he said.
“They’ve grown up loving this club. It’s a massive year for them, as it is for us.
“We feel like the weight is on our shoulders this year, and we have the privilege to be able to provide them with plenty of enjoyment and excitement throughout the year.
“We feel the pressure, but it’s also exciting to be given the throne to play in the club’s 150th year.”
