Ken Hinkley says his team is ready to roll out the footies and get stuck into games.

PORT ADELAIDE senior coach Ken Hinkley has set his sights high in the club’s 150th anniversary year in season 2020.

Hinkley says his side is looking to hit the ground running, and will do everything it can to deliver another premiership to the Port Adelaide faithful.

“I love this club and I love history of this club, and this club’s history is premierships,” Hinkley told media at a press conference at Alberton Oval on Wednesday afternoon.

“So that’s where we are starting at trying to do. We are going to start this year wanting to win the premiership in our 150th year.

“We are going to do everything we can to do that, and to do that you have to qualify for finals.

“Look out, we’re coming.”

Hinkley said the players have had a great pre-season from the coaches’ point of view, but he understands it is all just talk in February, and he wants his young and exciting list to deliver.

“We all feel good today. We always feel good at this time of the year,” he said.

“It’s exciting. We are building. There is no doubt this footy club is building. We are building towards a premiership. We don’t hide from that.

“We know we have the list now that is really, really capable.”

The senior coach is also excited for a strong season from key forward Charlie Dixon and the emergence of midfielder Dan Houston.

“Charlie (Dixon) is really important,” Hinkley said.

“He’s as important as anyone as we’ve perhaps got. We talk about the position he’s plays and the way he plays the position. Not many people can play like Charlie when he plays at his absolute best.

“We see what he (Houston) added to us in the midfield last year. He has trained the whole pre-season with the midfield group.

“We hope he maintains the form that he’s got and he can play in the midfield.”

The disappointing aspect of the pre-season for Hinkley was the shoulder injury to vice-captain Ollie Wines, but the 53-year-old said the midfield bull is in great spirits around Alberton.

“Ollie is really well,” he said.

“He’s out here today - 9-10 days since his surgery. He’s back running on Monday.

“I just spoke to him upstairs. His sling comes off and he just said I can’t wait to be able to run on Monday.

“We have great knowledge, unfortunately, just with the other side. We know what worked and what didn’t quite work last year.

“He will be prepared really well and I guarantee when he comes back, he’ll be exciting.”

Port Adelaide’s first competitive hit-out of the season will take place on Friday at 5.30pm in the club’s internal trial.

Gates open at 4.30pm for a gold coin donation, with plenty of fun activities for the whole family.
