PORT ADELAIDE could get the first look at last year’s no.1 and no.2 draft picks when it faces Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
Matthew Rowell and Noah Anderson could be in-line for senior debuts in round 1 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season after impressing in the Marsh Community Series.
Rowell had 20 disposals and seven tackles, and Anderson collected 14 touches and a goal in Gold Coast’s 68-point victory over Geelong, before their team backed up with another win over Adelaide by seven points at Flinders University Stadium in Noarlunga.
There were a number of other players who impressed in the Suns’ pre-season campaign with Will Brodie and Darcy MacPherson leading the way.
MacPherson had 31 touches in each of the pre-season contests, while Brodie had 29 possessions against the Cats and followed up with 28 against the Crows.
Alex Sexton kicked six goals in the pre-season opener for the Suns, before injuring his hamstring against Adelaide, which will put him in serious doubt for the start of the season proper against Port.
Young gun Ben Kink impressed in Marsh 1 with two majors before being rested for the final game, while recruits Hugh Greenwood and Brandon Ellis both slotted into the Gold Coast line-up seamlessly.
The Suns will be awaiting the fitness of co-captain Jarrod Witts who has a foot complaint, key defender Rory Thompson (knee) and yet-to-debut livewire forward Izak Rankine (shoulder) ahead of their clash with the Power.
The Gold Coast side will be announced on Thursday evening ahead of Saturday night’s clash with Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium.
