Having just re-signed with Port Adelaide and committing himself as a one-club player at Alberton, Power captain Dom Cassisi was in great spirits to once again host the annual Captain’s Club pre-season barbecue.
Joining the skipper were several other members of the playing group, assistant coach Shaun Rehn and the PAFC Corporate Team.
With a near perfect night of weather at our disposal and the Magpies training in the background, all of our Captain's Club Powerbrokers filled the players’ kitchen and balcony at the Allan Scott Power Headquarters to enjoy each other’s company.
After a few good natured laughs at the expense of some of our old friends and long-term Powerbrokers - including Stephen McPherson from Unley Glass - Dom spoke to the group, thanking them for their support and also emphasising the rejuvenated feeling amongst the playing group.
The dinner - a traditional three-meats barbecue courtesy of another Powerbroker in My Butcher via the chefs at The Port Club - was a hit, but the real highlight of the evening was new midfield mentor Rehn, who stole the show.
Shaun spoke openly about the challenges he faces in his new role and his intentions for our young ruck squad. But it was his candid interview of our panel, consisting of Jacob Surjan, Hamish Hartlett, John McCarthy and Dom which really topped off the night.
Whether it was Surj talking about his feelings on being a newlywed and long-term family plans, or John McCarthy describing the sea change lifestyle having just moved from the “big city” of Melbourne, the feeling in the room was warm and without doubt “inner sanctum”.
The PAFC Events and Corporate Teams did a wonderful job of organising a casual and entertaining occasion, with plenty of good feedback on how to make the event even better next year.
It was the perfect warm-up to the season ahead.
The Captain’s Club is just one of Port Adelaide’s Powerbroker packages and the annual barbecue is just one of the benefits.
