PORT Adelaide has today promoted rookie Jarrad Irons to the senior list, as a replacement for Matthew Lobbe, who is on the long-term injury list.

Who Would You Pick? Have Your Say now!

Irons was taken at pick 50 in the 2011 Rookie Draft having spent last year playing under 18s for Perth.

The agile midfielder/forward has played all four rounds of the NAB Cup/NAB Challenge, impressing with his composure under pressure and skills by hand and foot.

Irons, who is now available for selection in round 1, paid tribute to the club’s senior players for their support and guidance.

“I’m just overwhelmed and excited,” Irons told PortAdelaideFC.com.au exclusively.

“I really have to thank some of the senior guys like Dom, Boaky and Sal for showing me the way. And also Matt Thomas, who I live with, for being such a positive influence since I arrived in December.

“The development coaches - Daniel Healy and Matthew Nicks - have worked really closely with me and I’ve had great support from the whole coaching group.”

Irons said the experience he’s gained playing in the pre-season has given him the confidence to play at senior level.

“The first couple of weeks I was just getting used to the pace of the game, but now I’m starting to get the confidence to compete at this level.”

The Power’s final team will be announced at 4.30pm on Thursday on PortAdelaideFC.com.au.
