AS Port Adelaide prepares to face Hawthorn at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston in Sir Doug Nicholls Round, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back on the last time the sides met.

It was Round 11 of the 2017 season and Port Adelaide was looking to move back into the top four with five wins from 10 matches, against a Hawthorn side which had won one fewer match.

In what will go down as a record-breaking encounter, the Power burst out of the blocks to lead by 41 points at the first change while keeping Hawthorn scoreless – the first time it had kept an opponent scoreless since entering the AFL in 1997.

It was also the first time the Hawks had been kept scoreless in an opening quarter for 11 years.

The Power compounded Hawthorn’s misery by keeping it goalless to half time in front of the crowd of 37,910 at Adelaide Oval.

The Hawks put in a better second half effort but all the damage had been done in the first period in what coach Ken Hinkley described as his side playing “brutal football”.

Charlie Dixon booted four goals to be among his side’s best while Brad Ebert, in his 200th game, had 34 touches and 12 tackles.

The Power side, wearing a special indigenous guernsey designed by Nathan Krakouer, brought back memories of the game in 2015 when they booted 12 goals to three in the first half against the Hawks before holding on for a nail-biting eight-point win, except this time they went on with the job.
