THE ICONIC red and white MG Motor logo will turn black and white to match Port Adelaide’s historic ‘prison bar’ guernsey on Saturday night in a one-off nod to tradition.

The Power’s joint major partner MG Motor has agreed to modify its well-known primary logo on the front of the playing strip for the special occasion, which celebrates both the club’s 150th anniversary year and the bitter rivalry between Port and the Crows.

Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas said the decision by MG Motor said a lot about the strength of the partnership.

“It’s a huge call for a global brand to change their logo and it also represents an understanding of what the guernsey means to our club and our people,” he said.

“We can’t thank MG Motor enough for its ongoing support during the difficult first few months of our partnership and this is just another show of togetherness.”

MG Motor Australia and New Zealand Director of Marketing and Product Development, Danny Lenartic said the temporary logo change made sense.

“Both brands are steeped in history our proud past, bold future – it’s what brought MG and Port Adelaide together,” he explained.

“We love the tradition of the Prison Bar jumper and complementing it with our own black and white logo was the obvious choice to ensure the integrity of the tradition rolls on.”
