After missing games due to a scratched eye suffered against the Crows in Round 5, suffered a scare in Round 10 against Carlton after knocking his ribs and was hospitalised in Round 12 after suffering internal bleeding.

Whilst his hold on the club's leading goal kicker statistic may be relinquished as he misses a month recovering from his most recent injury, his spirit and courage is unquestionable.

Matt Thomas was second in the ranking - the first two-horse race between two players in any of Port Adelaide's polls this week.

Thomas received praise from pundits for a stand out performance against Carlton, where he was influential as a defending small forward.

The praise was amplified considering he had been dropped back to Norwood in the SANFL to develop into that new player.

Thomas' opportunity to stake another claim for the 'courage title' will come as Schulz recovers from his abdomen injury.
