It's a simple message for a raft of players producing good performances with the Magpies week in, week out, and no better exemplified than by recent elevations into the club's AFL team.
Undoubtedly the Magpies' most consistent AFL-listed player this year has been Ben Newton, and his persistence on and off the field as part of a highly-competitive midfield group was rewarded again last week when he was brought into the Power's Round 18 team.

Paul Stewart also found himself rewarded for a superb effort in a losing performance against North Adelaide.
And when it comes to speculation regarding the Power's forward line structure, particularly whether it lacks height, Hinkley's message was again simple.
Like he's said since arriving at Alberton in 2013, players pick themselves.
So when it comes to selecting a tall forward (the Magpies currently have three led by John Butcher, along with Mason Shaw and Mitch Harvey) consistent performances will go a long way towards giving the coaching panel something to consider.
"I've said this before: if we had someone in really good form, that was taller and able to help us out, while we're missing Jacko especially, we wouldn't be against [bringing in a tall forward]," Hinkley says.
"You do need to earn your spot in the team, that's what we talk about.
"I think John's form has been pretty good - everyone talks about John - he gets a chance to play this week and, hopefully, plays real well.
"Hopefully he gives us something to consider going forward."
The Magpies play the Crows' SANFL team at Alberton Oval on Saturday in an important game for both sides.
Port Adelaide could solidify its position at the top of the ladder if it wins, while the Crows are battling to stay in one of the most competitive finals races in recent years.
