IT'S already drawn comparisons to Gary Moorcroft's 2001 Mark of the Year triumph...

...and ABC South Australia's most respected caller Peter Walsh said it's the reason supporters play money to come to the football.

After a stagnant second quarter saw 17 minutes elapse before a goal was kicked in Port Adelaide's 70-point accounting of the Saints on Saturday night, the 42,000-strong crowd needed something to re-catalyse their interest in the game.

And it came Chad Wingard soared for an incredible mark over St Kilda's Sean Dempster in the third quarter.

It immediately drew comparison's to Moorcroft's screamer when the Dons beat the Bulldogs in 2001.

Port Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley had a different viewpoint though, crediting the kicker - acting captain Brad Ebert - for making it happen.

"The kick was so well placed for him - yes, it was a fantastic grab - but the kick helped Chad get in that spot," Hinkley said.
