UPDATE (Sunday, 6pm) MATTHEW Broadbent will start as sub in the Power's first game for 2014, as the Power confirmed the same 22 announced on Friday night, with no changes.

Matt White and Jared Polec will play their first games for Port Adelaide after arriving at Alberton from Richmond and Brisbane through the trade period, while Tom Clurey and Jarman Impey will make their AFL debuts.

Jackson Trengove, Jay Schulz and Robbie Gray have all been named on the field for the match after overcoming injuries in time for selection.

Matthew Lobbe will play as the Power’s sole ruckman with Brent Renouf named as an emergency for the game.

Cameron O’Shea was a surprise omission from the final team, but senior coach Ken Hinkley told portadelaidefc.com.au the decision was simply based on having too many in-form defenders available for a limited number of spots.

“It’s as simple as the fact we’ve got a really healthy list at the moment,” Hinkley said.

“We’ve had a couple of young defenders have really good pre-seasons, which means we had an extra couple in the team that we didn’t think we’d have.

“Cam’s just made way because of the numbers, but I’m sure he’ll play lots of footy still.”

O'Shea and Colquhoun will be the travelling emergencies for the game.

Port Adelaide’s Round 1 match against Carlton gets underway at 7:40pm (AEDT).
