FOUR POINTS

Halfway mark
Port Adelaide’s win over Central District in a thrilling finish at Alberton marked the halfway point of the 2014 IGA League season. The Eagles are the first ‘return’ match for the Magpies and pose as great a challenge as ever. Port Adelaide is undefeated at home this year, but has a poor record in previous seasons at home against the Eagles. They’ll be wanting to end that streak this weekend.

Ins and outs
Port Adelaide would expect few changes this weekend, but with a handful of players a chance to return for the Power, a couple of significant inclusions could line up for the Magpies. At Woodville Oval, tall defender Jacob Templeton is a chance to return this week for the Eagles down back.

1994 Premiership Reunion
Almost 20 years ago, a team full of great Port Adelaide names ran out onto Football Park as underdogs to a rampant Woodville-West Torrens. Things looked diabolical as the Eagles stormed out to a six-goal first quarter while the Magpies looked all at sea after being kept goalless. But then that classic Magpie underdog spirit lifted as Scott Hodges booted six majors of his own to help lead the side to its most important grand final victory of the modern era. As the sea of black and white erupted for Premiership #32, AFL chief executive Ross Oakley’s mind was surely made up. This weekend the club will hold a premiership reunion to celebrate 20 years since that historic day with many of that premiership team in attendance. Book now by emailing lcrabb@pafc.com.au or call 08 8447 9937.

Big man stocks
While the Magpies will struggle without a bonafide big man, there are plenty of candidates doing a serviceable job taking the taps. Contracted players Angus Bruggemann and Ben Haren tend to hold down the role with the likes of Mitch Harvey and Mason Shaw pinch hitting. It’s a combination that seems to be working, with all four of those players not only having an influence in the contests, but kicking goals up forward. The Magpies coaching panel is certainly spoiled for choice.
