Player of the Week
Kane Mitchell
Plenty of disposals for Kane and he’s starting to get to more contests, but we’re looking for him to start winning more of the contested ball and improve his disposal efficiency. He kicked three goals this week and was very good around stoppages with six clearances.
Power Player Reviews
Ben Newton
A really good game from Newts before he was taken off the ground with concussion. He played a strong inside role for us in the first quarter and he ran hard from stoppages to put himself in the best position to win the outside ball for us.
Brent Renouf
It took a bit of time for Brent to work into the game. It was good to see him become more aggressive at stoppages after half time, but we’d ideally see him replicate this across four quarters.
Sam Gray
He’s a great defensive player and showed this on Friday. He was tagged by North early but worked his way into the game to produce more of his usual output for us. If he can use his speed more consistently he’ll be able to impact more contests, more often with that defensive skill we know he possesses.
Karl Amon
Another encouraging performance from Karl, he spent more time as an inside midfielder and showed us he’s capable of winning his own ball. We’d like to see him improve his disposal efficiency so he can become a really dangerous player for us.
Mitch Harvey
Mitch led well early but wasn’t able to impact the whole game in the way we’d like, although he did show some promising signs early.
Jake Neade
Jake had plenty of offensive influence of the game and was strong defensively up forward. We just want to see him work harder to have a bigger impact inside 50 and around the ground. His pressure was very good throughout the game.
Brendon Ah Chee
Arch spent more time on ball and across half back this week, but only had nine disposals and struggled to hunt the footy. It’s an area we need him to improve in, because some of his defensive work was good.
Cam Hitchcock
While Cam had fewer possessions last week, he was much better around stoppages with three clearances. He was always looking to hunt the ball and I feel as though he’s playing tougher inside of stoppage - always looking to win clearances and lay a tackle to win the ball from the opposition.
Darcy Byrne-Jones
Darcy took another step forward this week. His first half was quiet but it was good to see him involve himself in the game more after half time. It was great to see him use his speed a bit more this week, but for us the next step he needs to take is to be more decisive with the footy and to attack the game more. If he can do that I reckon he’ll generate some excitement.
Sam Colquhoun
Sammy was able to generate a lot of ball movement out of defence. He regularly pushed forward and ran hard during the game. He had the most possessions for the team, but I was most disappointed with his skills, he’ll certainly be one of our better players in this team if he can improve his efficiency.
Cam O’Shea
A solid game from Cam. He was able to shut down his direct opponents and rebound from defence well. His work rate was impressive and he left his man several times to provide support at other contests. We’d like to see him be a bit more consistent with his defending, but he’ll take confidence from this performance.
