IT was a case of 'anything you can do, we can do better', as Port Adelaide's SANFL League side emulated the Power's thumping win on Saturday with a resounding victory of their own over Glenelg at Alberton on Sunday afternoon.

A 10-goal first quarter helped the Magpies to a 152-point win that showed no signs of last week's slow start against Norwood.

With scorers coming from all over the ground, including a late goal from backman Tom Clurey, it was a grand day out for the Port faithful as they saw their side pile the pressure on the black and golds around the ball and use their midfield to push forward time and again.

Glenelg could only manage one behind at the first break, thanks in no small part to the Magpies' defensive pressure and tackles in numbers.

With nine different scorers at quarter time, the Magpies rarely looked like slowing its dominant performance.

But it was AFL-listed Mitch Harvey, Paul Stewart and Ben Newton and who caused the most havoc for the Bays' defenders recording six goals between them by the main break.

Then Cameron Hitchcock and John Butcher joined the party - each booting five goals to put the result well beyond Glenelg's reach.

Port Adelaide SANFL coach Garry Hocking told portadelaidefc.com.au the Magpies' performance was the required response following a disappointing opening loss to Norwood.

"We were disappointed last week," Hocking said.

"I could see it in their eyes that there had been a really bad feeling sitting in their stomach.

"They are proud players and they wanted to respond in the best manner and they did."

Hocking said his charges were desperate to help honour the former greats of the club - the likes of Russell Ebert, Bob McLean, Geof Motley, Scott Hodges, Tim Evans and John Cahill - who had gates and ground locations named after them before the match.

He said he was also impressed with the team's ability to keep a strong hold on the momentum, despite Glenelg's attempt to swing it back their way.

"We wanted to pay tribute to them (the club heroes) and it was a great opportunity for us to respond to a pretty poor performance last week," he said.

"Full credit to Glenelg who tried to stay in the game and didn't look like they gave up.

"But our tackling and defensive pressure was probably at good as what I've seen and the one-on-one contest we were able to win those."

The win was soured by ankle injuries to Karl Amon and Louis Sharrad.
