There are, however, several areas fans want the League to look at, according to the results published in this weekend's AFL Record.
When it comes to rules, while 20 per cent of supporters want the sport’s governing body to leave the Laws of the Game alone for 2015, almost 1 in 10 called for further clarification on rules relating to disposal of the football.
A quarter would amend them.
Indeed, rule changes generally drew criticism from the outer, with over a quarter saying rule changes were something least liked and 16 per cent took issue with the way they’re interpreted.
The substitute rule is also in the crosshairs of fans, with almost 1 in 3 saying the game would be better without it.
But while fans might take a dim view of the lawbook, their satisfaction with the game remains general positive.
The majority of respondents are happy with the way the game is played, with the elite speed of the game drawing particular approval.
However while the sport itself might be in good shape on the field, the fairness of the game away from it is something supporterland wants remedied.
Almost 2 in 3 fans want a more equitable draw, although that doesn’t necessarily specify whether that relates to double-up opponents, travel, or time slots.
Certainly, there is less emphasis placed on blockbuster fixtures and TV schedules when it comes to the draw.
Saturday afternoon is the most popular time slot for respondents ahead of Saturday and Friday nights.
They equate to over 73% of preferred match times.
Undeniably though, it is the cost of attending AFL matches that is the biggest issue confronting the competition.
Fans says the high purchasing food and drink prices at the nation’s stadiums, combined with the overall costs of getting through the gate with either a membership card or daily ticket, are the biggest impact on game attendance.
Perhaps it’s why almost half of respondents attend between just one and five games a year.
Certainly, when 40 per cent of responses indicate fans would address the costs of the game and 30 per cent say they’d fix the equality in the fixture if they were the League’s CEO, you can be sure they’re high on priorities.
Port Adelaide, at least, is doing its bit on the cost of entry front, with some of the cheapest membership packages available in the competition.
The club and its personalities also make several notable appearances in the survey, with 2013 All-Australian and John Cahill Medallist Chad Wingard rated the best young player in the competition by the fans.
He also rated third as the most exciting player in the game to watch – behind Gary Ablett and Lance Franklin, but ahead of Cyril Rioli and Nat Fyfe.
Ken Hinkley was rated the club’s third best strategic coach behind Paul Roos and Ross Lyon.
