Gray signs multi-year deal to remain at Alberton until at least 2018
Club champion commits to Port Adelaide, may finish career as one-club player.
The All-Australian's three-year contract extension will be welcome news for Port Adelaide supporters who were treated to a football masterclass by the livewire forward in 2014.
Gray, 26, had a career best season where he played all 25 games, including the Power's three finals, and kicked 42 goals.
His consistency and impact throughout the year saw him also draw recognition from coaches within and outside of Alberton.
The Victorian secured the AFL Coaches Association's Champion Player of the Year award with a round to spare and received the recognition of his own coaches with his inaugural John Cahill Medal as Port Adelaide's top player.
While Gray penning the new deal seemed a fait accompli to many, his desire to remain at the club saw him ink the extension with a year to spare on his current contract.
It caps a year for Gray that also saw him elevated into the club's leadership group and play in the International Rules test match against Ireland in November.
But the elusive ultimate of team success is something he says will drive him next year.
“Obviously it’s nice to find some consistency with my own form but what I really enjoyed was the way the whole team played this year,” Gray told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“But we’re not satisfied with where we’re at, we’re going to attack this pre-season harder than ever to take our game to another level.”
