THE first AFL ANZAC Round at Adelaide Oval has delivered lasting memories for over 47,000 Power fans.

The day commenced with the Australian Defence Force AFL team defeating the Australian Emergency Services by 32 points, the 11th game between the two teams. The victory leaves the Army, Navy and Air Force ensemble with a 6-5 advantage and a successful blue-print for future contests.

The day ended under lights with Power Captain Travis Boak receiving the 11th Major Peter Badcoe VC Medal after leading his side to a 40 point victory over nemesis Geelong. Boak had 32 possessions and two goals but it was his final stat that had everyone talking, a kiss for Thelma Kelton, Badcoe’s 92 year-old sister.

The appreciative crowd stood proudly, wearing their RSL ANZAC Appeal pins, as Thelma presented Travis with his first Badcoe Medal. The fans had been glued to their seats for most of the day with two competitive games of footy and a stunning ANZAC Tribute from the Urban Myth Theatre Company during the break.

The audience included representatives from across the Defence sector – Government Ministers, Brigadiers, Lieutenant Colonels and Captains – plus the many support agencies that serve our Veteran community. This collective group have been embraced by the Defence Recognition Program, an initiative of Power Community Ltd to recognise and partner the Defence industry across the year.

This initiative would not be possible without partners, and we thank our new Defence Partner - BAE Systems Australia. BAE Systems recognise the role that the AFL and Port Adelaide Football Club play in honouring the Defence sector, and we are kicking goals together.
