NORTH ADELAIDE'S Michael Clinch has been offered a five-week suspension by the SANFL Incident Review Panel for his hit on Port Adelaide's Ben Newton in Friday night's trial game at Alberton.

Newton was stretchered from the ground with concussion and took no further part in the game.

The IRP assessed Clinch's contact as intentional, high and to the head.

Clinch has been suspended for four games during the past two seasons, which was taken into account in addition to the medical report from Port Adelaide's club doctor.

The Rooster will have until 9:00am on Tuesday to decide whether to contest the charge.

Meanwhile Norwood defender Andrew Kirwan has been offered a one-match suspension for engaging in rough conduct during the Redlegs' trial game against Woodville-West Torrens.

Kirwan will miss the Round 1 opener between Norwood and Port Adelaide at The Parade if he accepts the charge.

The match between the Redlegs and Magpies will commence at 7:15pm.
