During the April school holidays Power Community Ltd were able to host the ‘Salisbury Talented Athletes Academy’ (STAA), a fantastic initiative of the City of Salisbury and Sports Medicine Australia.

The Salisbury Talented Athletes Academy (STAA) was designed to provide the opportunity for aspiring young athletes in Salisbury to seek information and support that will assist in reaching higher goals at the state and national levels.

The STAA provided a holistic approach for young athletes which included personal development, fitness assessments for individual sports, performance analysis, goal setting, health and nutrition, stretching and recovery and how to balance sport, education and life.

Senior Coach Ken Hinkley allowed the STAA to attend a closed training session at Adelaide Oval which provided the group an insight to elite level training and experience first-hand the hard work required at each training session. Current player Aaron Young spoke to the group at the end of training about playing at the elite level, the discipline required, goal setting, the challenges and the enjoyment that he gets from playing with the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Following training the STAA made their way to the Snake Pit to be put through their paces and then enjoyed a recovery session at the beach before the short journey to Alberton Oval. During their time at Alberton the group were taken on an inner sanctum tour hosted by club great Russell Ebert, had a kick on the hallowed turf before welcoming parents to a seminar delivered by Jan Stirling. Athletes, parents and staff then moved across to The Port Club for a graduation dinner and celebration of the academy.

Power Community Ltd is working together with the City of Salisbury as part of our Central Corridor Strategy – we are kicking goals together.
