Port Adelaide celebrates Harmony Day
The club is celebrating Harmony Day - a day where "Everyone Belongs"
The club acknowledges Harmony Day and celebrates Australia’s Diversity and specifically, the diversity that exists within the Club.
The club, via its community arm, Power Community Ltd, engages multicultural and Aboriginal communities through a range of programs, including Aboriginal Power Cup, WillPOWER, Social Cohesion and New Arrivals programs.
The club also has five Aboriginal squad members and eight multicultural squad members, making up 18% of the total number of AFL players from a multicultural background (at least one parent born overseas).
The Port Adelaide Football Club highlights the off-field achievements of Australia Post AFL Multicultural Ambassador Alipate ‘Bobby’ Carlile, who works one day a week with the Power Community Ltd Diversity Programs Manager to support the development of the South Australian multicultural strategy as well as SANFL’s talent academy.
Carlile helps to deliver the Social Cohesion and New Arrivals programs, promoting Australian Rules Football amongst multicultural children and youth, and delivering a message of cultural tolerance and respect for one another irrespective of one’s background.
To celebrate Harmony Day, Port Adelaide Football Club staff attended a shared breakfast hosted by CEO Keith Thomas. All staff got into the spirit by wearing a touch of orange, the international colour for Harmony. Donations were also collected for non-for-profit organisation and Power Community Ltd partner, the Australian Refugee Association, whose mission is to help refugees become settled and participating citizens of Australia.
